The parliamentary elections in Poland in October 2023 fuelled hopes in Europe that conservative and right-wing nationalist forces could be defeated. The election was a breakthrough for Poland, the significance of which can perhaps even be compared to 1989 - a new beginning that raises the question of how its potential can best be utilised. The title of the exhibition with Karin Sander and Michał Martychowiec, which is being shown in the gallery of the Polish Institute in Berlin, therefore takes the form of a question that should make us all think about how we can continue the effect of this positive energy and further develop democracy.
In 1990, shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain, Karin Sander was invited to Łódź to take part in the exhibition to take part in the exhibition Construction in Process. The artist took large quantities of white quantities of white paint, which was difficult to obtain in Poland at the time. As a result of the site-specific activities entitled White Passageways, passageways through blocks of houses were completely renovated and painted white and the traces of the past were painted over, a gesture towards reconstruction.
